A towering hill on the road to Rome. Scene of the grimmest and bloodiest fighting of World War II. Through a long, bitter winter in the ravaged, desolate streets of Cassino, men slog it out in fierce cellar-to-cellar fighting and corpses freeze in the ice-bound mud.
